    OUR STORY

    URBA

    1975

The beginnings of URBA's prefabrication technology

The roots of URBA's prefabrication technology reach back to 1975, when FADOM was founded – the predecessor of today's MABUDO. At its peak the plant produced up to 4,000 apartments a year, drawing on factory production and systemic construction methods to answer the country's large housing deficit. That experience laid down the strong engineering and manufacturing foundations on which MABUDO was later built – developing and modernising prefabrication through research and development, towards modern, high–quality prefabricated construction.

    1988

    MABUDO is founded

The company opens a new chapter, taking the name MABUDO and becoming a private manufacturer operating under market–economy conditions. The transition from a centrally planned system to an open market sets a new direction. From that moment, MABUDO develops prefabrication technologies, adapting them to growing architectural, technical and market demands. The company builds its modern identity on quality, flexibility, and the continuous refinement of its technology.

    1996

A milestone in the development of MABUDO's prefabrication technology

In 1996, MABUDO acquires an advanced Scandinavian technology of three–layer sandwich–type prefabricated reinforced–concrete walls, introducing a new level of manufacturing precision and energy–efficient building logic. That technology is then developed and optimised through Polish engineering and production experience, adapting it to efficient large–scale manufacture. This combination became the foundation of today's MABUDO ROBUST® and MABUDO ECO® systems.

    1998–2015

Refining the technology and the prefabrication system

Between 1998 and 2015, MABUDO went through a period of intensive technological development and refinement of its prefabrication system – through cooperation with research centres, materials institutes and its own laboratories, and through testing prototype solutions on real projects. During this time, both manufacturing technologies and assembly processes were developed. Two complementary prefabrication systems took shape – for single–family and for multi–family construction. In parallel, MABUDO built experience on the Swedish and German markets, refining the technologies for different climates, regulations and building standards – strengthening the foundations for further product and system development.

    2007

    ABYARD is founded

ABYARD is founded – an independent general contractor that has been part of the URBA ecosystem from the start. Its role is to ensure full consistency between the architectural design and the delivery on site. As prefabrication and industrialised construction develop, ABYARD becomes a key operating pillar of URBA, making sure that the precision, speed and quality forged in the factory are consistently delivered on the construction site.

    2015

    URBA is founded

URBA is founded as a development company by Marcin Borowski and Maciej Piotrowski. Our first project – two multi–family buildings with 40 apartments and an underground garage in Cracow's Wola Duchacka – shows the company's ambition to build above market standards, with the future in mind. The Skowronia investment introduces solutions that go ahead of the market standards of the day: façades insulated with mineral wool, inverted green roofs, window joinery with upgraded parameters, and external aluminium blinds. Our goal was to deliver apartments of high quality, energy efficiency and durability. This approach was received very well by the market and became the impulse for building the integrated URBA ecosystem – covering architecture and the delivery of investments based on modern construction technologies, including prefabrication. All of it aimed at delivering homes and apartments ready for the future, to a standard above expectations.

    2015

    URBA Architects is founded

URBA Architects was founded in 2015 in Cracow on the initiative of architects Maciej Kronenberg and Piotr Knez together with developers Maciej Piotrowski and Marcin Borowski. As an independent architectural studio, from the very beginning it develops its designs in close connection with real investments, so that design solutions can be verified and refined in practice. URBA Architects combines a clear, often minimalist architecture with a deep understanding of the building process, creating designs adapted to modern technologies and industrialised construction.

    2016

    MABUDO joins URBA

In 2016, MABUDO becomes part of URBA, joining the experience of prefabrication with architectural design and project delivery in one integrated system. URBA integrates MABUDO's manufacturing know-how with the design philosophy of URBA Architects and its own delivery capability, creating a model in which architecture, production and construction operate as one coherent process. The goal is to deliver homes and apartments that exceed market standards and stay ready for the future. An intensive phase of development and practical refinement of the system through successive projects begins. URBA modernises its production facilities, scales up its operations and grows sales – leading to a rapid uptake of MABUDO technology in Poland and on foreign markets.

On our 14.8–acre (6–hectare) production site in Zduńska Wola we employ production workers, builders, structural engineers, and specialists in administration and sales. Within the URBA Group, they can count on the support of architects, project managers, sales specialists and staff from general construction contracting.

    2018

Prefabrication, in architecture and at scale

2018 becomes an important moment in the development of the technology and its integration with URBA's business model, showing that prefabrication can support both ambitious architecture and the delivery of large–scale residential projects. MABUDO's reinforced–concrete prefabrication is deployed on two completely different investments. The first is a boutique premium development by Cracow's Błonia meadows – Kasztelańska 22 – where we show that prefabrication can go hand in hand with high architectural quality and respond to the very specific conditions of a prestigious location. The second is another flagship URBA project – Stage IV of the Skowronia estate – part of a large, multi–stage residential development, comprising in this stage five multi–family buildings with underground garages. Here, prefabrication accelerates delivery, increases quality control, and reduces investment risk on a project of significant scale. These two projects confirm that URBA's technology works equally well on premium projects and on large residential investments – delivering durability, energy efficiency and high technical parameters as standard.

    2019

    European expansion: Germany and Sweden

In 2019, URBA extends its activity into the German and Swedish markets, creating URBA Germany and URBA Nordic and establishing cooperation with German investment partners. URBA enters these markets not only as a supplier of prefabrication technology, but also as an architect, general contractor and active developer – drawing on the integrated URBA Enterprises model that combines design, prefabrication manufacturing and project delivery. In Germany, the company focuses on mid- and premium-segment residential projects, where reinforced-concrete prefabrication delivers durability, high energy efficiency and predictable execution. In Sweden, individual luxury house projects are developed, giving rise to the URBA SKY brand. In a short time, URBA's European project portfolio passes the €80 million mark, confirming the scalability of the URBA model on different markets and across different residential segments.

    2021

    UCUBER is founded

The founding of UCUBER marks the next step in the development of the URBA ecosystem and an extension of its activity into volumetric modular construction. The decision is rooted in the analysis of the needs of URBA's own projects, in client expectations, and in several years of R&D into different offsite–construction technologies. While MABUDO's reinforced–concrete prefabrication delivers unmatched durability and high technical parameters of building envelopes, UCUBER focuses on accelerating turn–key delivery through the factory production of volumetric building modules. As a result, URBA develops competence in all the main offsite–construction technologies – 2D prefabrication, 3D volumetric modules, and hybrid solutions combining the two. That approach allows the technology to be matched flexibly to the character and needs of each project. UCUBER becomes another key element of the URBA ecosystem, strengthening the company's ability to deliver modern, future–oriented buildings faster and at greater scale.

    2022

    OSTOJA: the first sustainable-village project

In 2022, URBA delivers Ostoja – its first project in the sustainable-neighbourhood category, designed as an estate set into its natural surroundings. A complete living environment is created here: a park, a running track, a playground, an outdoor gym, and tennis courts. Located near Szczecin, the investment comprises 106 houses (detached, semi-detached and terraced) designed by URBA Architects and built using MABUDO ECO® prefabrication. The houses are produced in the factory in three optimised types, which increases the efficiency of production and assembly while still allowing residents to personalise the interiors. Prefabrication enabled a fast, efficient delivery – limiting cost and the construction's impact on the environment. Within a year and a half, around 172,000 sq ft (16,000 m²) of usable floor area was built, using only two assembly teams. Ostoja has been received very well by residents, who value both the quality of how the space was developed and the houses themselves – energy-efficient, quiet and economical to run. The project confirmed that durable, energy-efficient houses can be delivered at scale while creating a high-quality environment to live in.
